SCHENECTADY — Sam Caruso drove in the tying run with a double and then scored on a single by Anders Goetz to give Union College a 5-4 win over St. Lawrence University in game two of a Liberty League doubleheader Tuesday.

The Dutchmen (12-4 overall, 9-1 conference) swept the doubleheader, winning game one 6-3.

Brian Magovney homered and drove in three runs for the Saints (10-6, 5-3) in game two and Carter Franz also homered for the Saints.

n Jillian Donodeo scored five goals and Casey Sarle added four as SUNY Oneonta defeated SUNY Potsdam 16-10 in a SUNYAC women’s lacrosse game in Oneonta.

Caroline Tulley and Kiera McNally both scored three goals for Oneonta. Whitney Boshart and Michelle Varney both scored three goals for the Bears (4-5, 1-2). Margaret Wall scored two goals.

n Stephanie LaMont tallied six goals as Bard (5-6) defeated SUNY Canton 16-13 in a nonconference women’s lacrosse game at Annondale-on-Hudson.

Brooke Knight led SUNY Canton (4-5) with four goals. Tressa Goolden produced three goals and Keeley Rice and Robyn Carroll each tallied two.



Jefferson CC pitchers key home baseball sweep

Jake Welch and James Matthews provided strong pitching performances, and Kyle Simmons finished with a combined five hits and two runs batted in as Jefferson Community College swept a Region 3 East Division doubleheader against Adirondack CC at the Watertown Fairgrounds. JCC won 6-3 and 10-0.

Welch gave up one run on three hits while striking out eight in six innings to lead JCC to a win in game one. In the second game, Matthews struck out six and allowed one hit in a five-inning shutout for the Cannoneers (9-10).

Tyler Decker drove in a pair of runs and had two triples in the first game, and Jason Hardie knocked in four runs in the second game for JCC.

n Joanna Bardak homered and doubled and Brianna Bush tossed a four-hit shutout as the Tribunes took the opener en route to an eventual Region 3 sweep of Jefferson CC in Rochester. Monroe (4-14, 4-0) won 8-0 and 6-2. Jessica Dobson-Tufo belted a home run and had a triple in game two for JCC (2-6).

n Joey Spooner scored two goals to go with three assists, but JCC dropped a Region 3 game to SUNY Delhi, 17-7, at General Brown High School.

Dan Lazore added three goals and an assist for JCC (1-8).
