SACKETS HARBOR — The school Board of Education approved an increase in the tax levy of 2 percent for the 2013-14 budget Tuesday.

The total budget is $7,994,595 — a $93,760 increase from last year’s $7,900,835. It is the first budget increase in four years.

“I still think we’re being fairly prudent,” said Superintendent Frederick E. Hall Jr. “Folks were at the point where they couldn’t do this anymore.”

Employee benefits will see an 11.4 percent, or $220,419, increase. Teaching, including instructional salaries, will go up 0.9 percent, or $20,051. Decreases are in library instructional media and transportation services.
