Families planning outdoor spring projects will have the chance to see the latest designs of gazebos, grills, outdoor kitchens and hot tubs this weekend during the North Country Home Show at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds municipal arena, where 65 exhibitors will strut their stuff.

Hours are 5 to 9 p.m. this evening, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens 65 and older and active-duty military and free for children under age 16. Door prizes such as grills, park benches and outdoor lighting will be given away every half hour throughout the weekend, said Terry M. Petrie, executive director of Northern New York Builders Exchange Inc., which is sponsoring the show for the 37th year.

Mr. Petrie expects the turnout for this year’s home show to top last year’s mark because people are more willing to spend. Some 3,000 people attended the show last year.

“Everyone’s a lot more optimistic, and people are loosening up and spending more money,” he said, adding that he expects to see couples planning outdoor projects. Many outdoor product designs at the show are a step above what was featured last year.

“Outdoor living is going to be a big thing this year, because it gives you an opportunity to expand your living space without putting on a big addition,” he said. “The cost factor is what comes into play.”

He added that cold weather in the past week also is an incentive for people to stop by the show.

“We don’t like nice weather because people stay outdoors, so it would be good if it’s a little cold,” he said.
