STAR LAKE Incoming Clifton-Fine Central School Superintendent Regina C. Yeo said she is looking forward to working with both the Board of Education and interim Superintendent Susan O. Shene, who will return to her job as principal.
The board offered Mrs. Yeo the job after it reached an impasse with Mrs. Shene over the length of her contract if she were to become superintendent. Mrs. Yeo said she does not expect any hard feelings to get in the way of Mrs. Shenes relationship with her.
I see her as a resource, Mrs. Yeo said. She brings a lot of history about the school.
Mrs. Yeo said she was aware of the troubled track records of many of the superintendents who have preceded her but thought she could smooth troubled waters.
Before Mrs. Shene, the superintendent was Denise L. Dzikowski, whose tenure lasted two years amid internal disagreements on the board. She replaced Paul J. Alioto, who was with the district for seven years, but before him, the board fired Gail E. Gotham, who later reached a settlement with the district. Prior to Ms. Gotham, the board did not renew the contract of Linda R. Ivanenok. Donald H. Belcer resigned in 1994 after a petition drive by residents asking that his contract not be renewed.
I have talked in depth with the school board, Mrs. Yeo said. I have definitely done my homework.
Mrs. Yeo was an elementary teacher for 10 years in Western New York. For the past five years, she has been the elementary principal at Berne-Knox-Westerlo Central School, Berne, which has about 500 students, more than the entire enrollment at Clifton-Fine.
Its a good fit for me, Mrs. Yeo said. My husband and I always had an affinity for the Adirondacks and have considered it for our retirement. It just seemed like an excellent transition for us.
Mrs. Yeo said she will be in the area next weekend to look for a house and plans to attend the boards remaining meetings this year.
She is not expected to attend a special meeting of the board at 6 p.m. Saturday, called for a personnel issue and to review student records.
