Appointed assistant VP

Adirondack Health has announced the appointment of Elena Vega-Castro as the new assistant vice president of long term care at Mercy Living Center, Tupper Lake.

Ms. Vega-Castro’s most recent position was assistant administrator at the Country Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre, Carthage, where she worked for more than seven years.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in health care management from the SUNY Institute of Technology, Utica, and a master’s degree in health management from Trident University International, an online institution.

Marketing jobs filled

C2AE, a full-service architectural, engineering and planning firm based on Lansing, Mich., with an office in Canton, has hired two marketing professionals who will provide support to the Canton office.

Jennifer Middlin has been hired as a marketing coordinator. She received a bachelor’s degree in marketing and management from Northwood University, W. Palm Beach, Fla., and is a founding member of the Center for New Enterprise Opportunity in Lansing. She has more than a decade of experience in high tech marketing, public relations and social media experience.

Trystin Vanderstelt has also been hired as a marketing coordinator. Most recently she managed marketing and business development for several Lansing businesses and worked for RBK Building Materials, Kalamazoo, Mich. She is a graduate of Hope College, Holland, Mich., where she received a bachelor’s degree in business administration and psychology. She also received a master’s degree in psychology.

Management change

The Wellesley Hotel and Restaurant, located in Thousand Island Park on Wellesley Island, will reopen its doors on May 24 under new management.

The restaurant will be managed by chef Karin Lapusnak, who has managed several restaurants in the greater Watertown area, including the Renaissance Restaurant, Goodfello’s Brick Oven Pizza and the Sackets Harbor Brew Pub.

Engineer promoted

Seth A. Livermore has been promoted to civil discipline head at Beardsley Design Associates Architecture, Engineering & Landscape Architecture, the firm announced recently. In addition to discipline head duties, Mr. Livermore will continue to serve as a civil engineer.

Mr. Livermore joined Beardsley in 2005 as a civil engineer and earned a professional engineering license in 2009. As civil discipline head, Mr. Livermore will keep Beardsley’s civil discipline ahead of the leading edge of new technology, trends and developments.

Earns state designation

Wayne H. Thompson, a LEED Green associate at Bernier, Carr & Associates, has earned his professional engineering designation in New York state. He holds a professional engineering designation in Quebec, Maryland and Virginia and has more than 35 years of experience as a general contractor and professional engineer. He has worked as an engineer in the United States for more than a decade.

Mr. Thompson lives in Alexandria Bay with his wife, Cecilia. He is president of the Alexandria Bay Rotary Club and a board member of the Little Theatre or Watertown.

Receives certification

Charles S. Cameron, a network analyst in the information systems department at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, has received certification as a Cisco Network Professional.

The advanced certificate gives Mr. Cameron the ability to plan, implement, verify and troubleshoot complex enterprise networks and collaborate with specialists on advanced security, voice and wireless solutions, according to Canton-Potsdam Chief Information Officer Jorge C. Grillo.

Mr. Cameron joined CPH in August 2011. A north country native, Mr. Cameron has worked in a variety of power systems, communications and information technology roles across the globe.

Photographer wins awards

Penny Heath, owner of Heath Photography, Redwood, received two awards from the Professional Photographer Association in two categories for a portrait of a boy taken at Salmon Run Mall in March 2012.

Ms. Heath photographed Christopher Harris, Watertown, for an Operation Smile fundraiser. Her portrait was chosen by the Professional Photographers Association for first place overall and first place for images of children at the organization’s Imaging USA conference in Atlanta, Ga., on Jan. 19.

Dr. Peter M. Virga, managing partner of the Watertown Dental Health Group, was recently featured in Dentaltown Magazine’s January issue. Dr. Virga wrote an article entitled “The Future of Dentistry in Digital, Don’t Be Left Behind.” He was asked to share his perspective on what dentists can do to improve overall patient care and value through dental technology based on his own experiences.

Dentaltown is nationally distributed to more than 120,000 dentists every month and is considered one of the largest peer-to-peer dental publications in the country.

Dr. Virga has been practicing dentistry in Watertown for 25 years. He earned a doctorate from Georgetown University School of Dentistry and has completed more than 600 hours of continuing education since 2008. He is a visiting faculty member at Spear Education in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Hired at CPA firm

Bowers and Co. CPAs PLLC, with offices of Syracuse and Watertown, have announced the hiring of Gloria A. Pierce as a new staff accountant in their Watertown office.

Mrs. Pierce graduated from the University of Arizona, Tucson, in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and continued her education at the University of Phoenix, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 2006.

She has been working in public accounting since 2007 in the areas of tax and accounting and assists small businesses with their QuickBooks needs. Mrs. Pierce has volunteered as an IRS Volunteer Income Tax Preparer for the past four tax seasons and recently passed the IRS Special Enrollment Exam and will soon be receiving the title of enrolled agent from the IRS.

Mrs. Pierce is originally from Arizona and moved to Watertown in July.

Wins hospitality award

The Comfort Inn & Suites, Watertown, recently received the 2013 Gold Hospitality Award from the world lodging developer Choice Hotels International Inc., franchisor of the Comfort brand.

As a top performing property among the company’s more than 5,000 U.S. franchised hotels, the Watertown property is among the top percentile of properties within the Comfort brand, which is 2,573 strong, earning the Gold Award status.

Associate hired

Tim Wewer EA, ABA Tax, Accounting and Financial Services, Evans Mills, has hired Michelle Holbrook to specialize in individual and small business tax preparation.

Ms. Holbrook holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and is planning to pursue a post-graduate degree in addition to a certified public accountant designation.

Promoted at boat museum

Margaret E. Hummel has been promoted to events manager at the Antique Boat Museum, Clayton.

Ms. Hummel joined the museum in April 2011, where she took on the role of events and marketing coordinator. In her new position she will take the lead role in many of the museum’s events and work closely with the development and marketing branches of the organization.

She has been instrumental in assisting with the development, production and execution of events such as Family Day, River Reunion, Concours d’Elegance and the annual boat show and auction.

A native of Jamesville and a seasonal resident of Grenell Island, Ms. Hummel attended Miami University of Ohio and lives in Clayton.
