Massena, Salmon River, SLC boys lacrosse teams notched NAC wins


The Massena Central and Salmon River varsity boys lacrosse teams netted wins on their home fields while St. Lawrence Central prevailed on the road in the three NAC matchups staged on Monday.

Massena 11, OFA 7: At Mike Nicholas Field, the Raiders got off to a strong start but needed a second-half rally to turn back the Blue Devils for their first win of the season.

Grayson Phillips led the way offensively for Massena with four goals and an assist. Sake Rourke generated three goals and one helper while Rhoades Tarbell (2 assists), Nick Henrie (1 assist), Tyler Simms and Evan Kassian all connected for solo goals as the Raiders went ahead 4-0 in the second quarter before OFA battled back to tie the game early in the second half after producing the next four goals. Brendan Broderick contributed two assists toward the winning effort.

Andrew Roddy paced the Blue Devils (1-1) with three goals and two assists. Jake Garrison knotted the score a 4-4 just 5:52 into the second half in finishing with two goals and one helper. Jordan McCormick and Nick Perrigo struck for other OFA goals while Nate Peo chipped in a solo assist.

Kyle Cook worked the Massena crease for nine saves while Spencer Lawrence stopped six shots in the losing cause.

The Raiders (1-2) will now get set to take on Potsdam on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the second game of a lacrosse double-header between the two schools which will begin with the varsity girls matchup at 4:30 p.m.

Salmon River 20, Colton-Pierrepont 2: In Fort Covington, Skylar Thomas led a balanced attack with three goals and four assists while Dalston Day generated another three goals and three helpers as the Shamrocks steadily pulled away from the Colts.

Karonhiate Lazore contributed four goals in the winning effort followed by Kyle Lewis with three. Dalton Roundpoint (2 assists), Braiden Sunday, Trenton Tarbell, Lakota Square, Talon Hemlock, Ryan Thomas and Skylar Mitchell all tallied solo goals while Kason Tarbell helped set up three goals.

Andrew Holden and Gyle Dominy broke through for the C-P goals.

Randy Peters had 12 saves backstopping the win while Craig Miller turned aside four shots handling crease duties for the Colts (0-4, 0-3).

The Shamrocks (2—0) are slated to play at Saranac Lake this afternoon starting at 4:30 p.m. while the Colts get set to host Saranac Lake on Thursday.

SLC 13, Saranac Lake 8: In Saranac Lake, the visiting Larries worked their way to a 7-4 halftime lead before taking control of the game with a 5-1 third-quarter surge.

Blake Baldwin and Marshall Burninghausen anchored the SLC offense with three goals and an assist each. Ian Lynch and Cody Burns both finished with two goals and two assists. Lukas Arquiett contributed a goal and two helpers while Jake Sutton and Skyler Burns both notched the first goals of their varsity lacrosse careers.

Jeff Stevens led the Red Storm (0-2) with four goals. Oliver Holmes (2 assists) and Seth Pickering struck for two goals apiece while Kevin Duguay logged two assists and Quinton Urquhart recorded a solo helper.

Kody Kocsis went the distance between the pipes for the Larries in turning aside 12 shots while Mike Burpoe (12 saves) and Jacob Merrill (5 saves) combined to backstopping the Saranac Lake effort.

Now 2-1 in the NAC, the Larries will look for a third straight win on Thursday when they play host to OFA starting 4:30 p.m.


In the lone varsity girls lacrosse game on Monday, Indian River pulled away to a 20-4 non-league win over Heuvelton.
