To The Editor:
Michelle Cook lost a close a decision at the U.S. Championships, but she walked away with a #4 ranking in the country. Michelle impressed all the officials and showed that she is definitely a serious contender to make the U.S. Olympic team. At this point with only 17 fights to her record of 14-3, she is going against opponents with around 60 to 100 fights and many have 10 years experience compared to her one year. Reporters were captivated by her elegant demeanor and her ability to box while caring for 16-month-old Konwanihara.
One official commented to me that is wasnt normal to be this good in one year. In two years no one will touch her, he said.
She is in the elite category and will need to upgrade her training and enter national tournaments needed to upgrade her skills. She is going to need some really good sponsors to cover these expenses.
We are going to embark on a journey of national tournaments to get the points needed for rankings. And for the ability to box at international events.
Here is some of her scheduled events at the national level:
June 15-22 - Washington, D.C,; Presidents Cup.
July 4-6 - San Carlos, Az.; All Indian Boxing Tournaments.
July 9-13 - Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; Womens National Golden Gloves Tournament.
July 31-Aug. 3- Independence, Mo.; Ringside World Championships.
