Salmon River boys lacrosse team surges past Saranac Lake; Canton halts Potsdam

The Salmon River Central varsity boys lacrosse team pulled away to its second lopsided win in as many days while Potsdam Central suffered its first loss in the two NAC matchups staged on Tuesday.

Salmon River 21, Saranac Lake 3: In Saranac Lake, the Shamrocks raised their record to 3-0 by steadily pulling away from the Red Storm.

Dalston Day emerged as the leading scorer of the day for Salmon River with three goals and five assists. Skyler Thomas tallied four goals and two helpers. Kyle Lewis (3-2) and Russ Oakes (2-3) both had five-point outings while Kason Tarbell and Sky Sunday each finished with two goals and an assist. Netting solo goals were Braiden Sunday, Lakota Square, Ryan Thomas, Dalton Roundpoint and Chad George.

Seth Pickering broke through for all three Saranac Lake goals.

Randy Peters (9 saves) and Kobi Johnson (2 saves) shared crease duties for the Shamrocks while Mike Burpoe turned aside nine of the shots he faced working the Red Storm (0-2) crease.

The Shamrocks are slated to host Canton on Thursday starting at 4:30 p.m.

Canton 10, Potsdam 6: At the Potsdam turf field, the teams battled to a 6-6 tie through the first three quarters before the Bears reeled off four unanswered goals in the final frame to come away with the win and hand the Sandstoners their first loss in three games.

Jack Elberty led the Canton attack with four goals. Cody Moore followed with three goals while Peyton Vanbibbert, Josh Pierson, Tanner Sanderson and Ryan Caldwell all struck for singletons.

Hayden Hart netted a pair of goals to anchor the Sandstoner offense. Stephen Lewis fashioned a goal and assist while Chris Stone, Garrett Kilgore and Chad Varney chipped in solo goals.

Nate Gibson handled 14 shots working the crease for the win as the Bears improved to 2-0. Jason Cardinal had nine saves in the loss.

The Sandstoners return to action on Thursday when they head to Massena to take on the Raiders in the nightcap of an NAC lacrosse double-header between the two schools which begins with the girls game at 4:30 p.m.
