The Massena Central and Potsdam Central girls lacrosse teams netted contrasting NAC wins on their home turfs on Tuesday to set up a Thursday afternoon matchup of early-season unbeatens.
Massena 18, OFA 8: At Mike Nicholas Field, the Lady Raiders steadily pulled away to their second win in as many games this spring as Erin Francis dissected the OFA defense for nine goals and four assists. Alisha Jacobs tallied four goals and three helpers. Ashlyn Olson scored twice. Dominique Valancius and Devin Kelly both finished with a goal and assist while Makaul Vandermast and Shannon Casey accounted for the other goals.
Mackenzie Bressett and Kaitlin Sheppard anchored the OFA scoring with two goals and an assist each. Nikki Holmes and Nicole Hammond added two goals each while Julia Mullin logged a solo assist.
Annalee Beckstead had another solid outing between the pipes for the Lady Raiders, making seven saves in her second career start, while Erica Chase turned aside 10 shots for OFA (1-2, 1-1).
The Lady Raiders will now get set to host Potsdam on Thursday starting at 4:30 p.m. The Massena boys will then host Potsdam in the nightcap of the NAC double-header.
Potsdam 13, Canton 12: At the PCS turf field, the host Lady Sandstoners extended a 6-4 halftime lead to 8-4 early in the second half before answering a Canton comeback with a last-minute rally to earn the win.
Junior Nettie Rishe produced a career-high 10 points on eight goals and two assists in the winning effort. Michaela Cole added three goals and one helper while Kalie Grant (1 assist) and Jenny Tardelli closed out the Lady Sandstoner scoresheet.
Tess Knight and Alison Noble led the Lady Golden Bears with three goals apiece. Molly McMasters chipped in a pair while Rachel Huntley, Lacey Kenny, Katie Lapinski and Kali Frank all struck for singletons and Morgan Eggleston notched a solo assist.
Katelyn Bloom made seven saves for Potsdam, which improved to 2-1 overall, while Meg Howard did likewise for Canton (0-2).
Heuvelton 10, Salmon River 9 (OT): In the other NAC girls lacrosse matchup on Thursday, Heuvelton evened its NAC mark to 1-1 (1-2 overall) with an overtime win over Salmon River.
The Lady Shamrocks rallied from a 5-1 halftime deficit to tie the game and survived a potential late game-winning goal when a Heuvelton tally was waived off due to a player entering the crease.
In overtime, Jackie Sovie connected for her seventh goal of the game just 13 seconds into the three-minute session to lift the Lady Bulldogs to the win.
Victoria Thompson forced overtime at 9-9 for the Shamrocks with her only goal of the game as Salmon took 6-5 and 8-7 leads in the second half.
Olivia St. Pierre had a tieing goal at 6-6 for Heuvelton one of her two in the game. Ashlyn Foster also scored once for the winners who receive one assist from Sovie and Maddie St. Pierre and seven saves from Heather Thompson.
Tewashorake Barnes and Kierra Thompson each scored three goals for Salmon River. Kiana Thompson, Vanna Thompson and Victoria Thompson all scored once. Kierra Pyke had five saves for Salmon River which is slated to play a non-league game in Lake Placid against Northwood Prep on Thursday before traveling to Canton for an NAC encounter on Friday starting at 4:30 p.m.
