SLU sophomore Scott Smolensky garnered Liberty League mens track performer of the week after winning 1,500 meter run at Roberts Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday. SLU freshman and former Ogdensburg Free Academy athlete Nick Crawford earned his second straight rookie of the week award after winning the 400 hurdles in 57.32 and anchoring fellow Ogdensburg product Jake Fredericks, who ran second in the hurdles, Potsdam,s Shawn Lillie and Omaru Kabia on the winning 4x100 relay team in 44.13. The Saint men and womens teams will compete in the Liberty League Championships this weekend.
Another former OFA standout Christian Lesperance is enjoying a fine outdoor season as a freshman Utica College competing in the 400 meter dash and the 4x400 relay.
Over the weekend at the two-day Coach P Open, hosted by Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa., Lesperance teamed with Trevor Gibson, Andrew Hoover and Brandon Rudolphe for a fourth place finish in 3:26.86. Lesperance took fourth in the 400 in 51:28 at the University of Rochester Invitational where Tyler Hayes of Massena ran on the 4x800 relay team which placed fourth in 8:55.44. In the season-opening Hamilton Invitational Lesperance took third in the long jump at 19.23 feet and ran second in the 400 meters with a 51.38.
SLUs Elizabeth Edwards made the honor roll in womens track...SLU junior midfielder Parker Benedict earned Liberty League womens lacrosse defensive player of the week...Clarksons Alyssa Cristaldi and SLUs Brigid Hurley were also named to the league honor roll...SLU freshman Jeremy Vautour was selected Liberty League mens lacrosse rookie of the week for a fourth straight week...SLU freshman Claire ONeill tied for the second lowest round in program history with a winning 74 at the individual championships at Vassar to get LL womens golfer of the week.
