Ladouceur shoots 59 in Florida

ZEPHYR HILLS, Fla. - Last summer, after completing his recovery from hip replacement surgery, Chuck Ladouceur of Heuvelton enjoyed the best golf season of his life.

He has carried it over to his winter season in Zephyr Hills, Fla. where he has madse his cold-weather home for the past four years. A season highlighted by shooting the magic number of 59 in late March to break his own course record of 60, which he achieved four times, at the Zephyr Hills Municipal Airport course in Florida.

Ladouceur, a retired elementary teacher-baseball coach in the Ogdensburg City School District, downplayed the round a bit because it came on a 4800-yard, par 68 layout but conceded that it is “something that doesn’t happen very often.”

And something, that despite the relative shortness of the course, “always comes down to putting the ball in the hole and that means making of putts” says Ladouceur who collected seven birdies and one eagle in the 59.

But it didn’t look like it was going happen on a day when his putter lapsed.

“I was really hitting my irons well that day but after going six-under on the front nine and I missed some six-foot birdie putts,” recalled Ladouceur who is a member of both Gilbert Greens and the St. Lawrence State Park courses.

“But everything came together on the last two holes. I made a 17-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole and an 14-footer for birdie on the last hole.”
