Local colleges: SLU men’s lacrosse tops SUNY Potsdam

CANTON — Davey Hovey played a role in nine goals as the St. Lawrence University men’s lacrosse team defeated SUNY Potsdam, 10-4, in a nonconference game on Tuesday.

Hovey scored one goal and assisted on eight others for the Saints (9-3 overall). Pierson Fowler led SLU with three goals.

Jeremy Vautour, Tucker Garfield, Justin Ingram, Marc Perroni, Zach Sloan and Alden Frelinghuysen also scored for SLU.

Derek Frost scored twice for the Bears (5-5). Rob Kunz and Ed Doherty also scored for SUNY Potsdam.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

CLARKSON 17, SUNY CANTON 9

Christine Wright scored five goals on all five of her shots to lead Clarkson past the Kangaroos (5-6) in a nonconference game in Canton.

Jeannette Pendergast, Katie VanDeValk and Alyssa Cristaldi all scored three goals for the Golden Knights (9-4). Noelle Miller, Kerrie Cline and Danielle Faivus also scored for Clarkson.

Keeley Rice led SUNY Canton with five goals. Tressa Goolden scored three goals and Brooke Knight also scored.

SUNY OSWEGO 15, SUNY POTSDAM 9

Erannan Shattuck scored three goals with two assists, and Corinne Marsh added three goals as the Lakers (5-6, 2-3) defeated SUNY Potsdam in a SUNYAC game in Oswego.

Brittany Blake led the Bears (4-7, 1-4) with three goals. Emily Petit and Margaret Wall each scored twice and Katie Putnam and Bailey Weigel also scored for the Bears.

SYRACUSE 16, CORNELL 4

Former Carthage standout Kailah Kempney tallied a season-high five points, including three assists, as the Orange routed the Big Red (7-5) in a nonconference game at Syracuse.

Kayla Treanor led Syracuse (10-3) with four goals and Alyssa Murray added three.

MEN’S TENNIS

HAMILTON 7, ST. LAWRENCE 2

Paul Barrett was the only winner in singles for the Saints (10-6), who fell to Hamilton in a match in Clinton. Barrett teamed with Michael Hayden to win a doubles match as well.

Jon Franzel and Koyla Kerz won singles matches and were on winning doubles teams for Hamilton (7-8).

SOFTBALL

HERKIMER CCC 21-9, JEFFERSON CC 1-1

Toni Secreti and Alyssa LaLonde both tossed complete-game one-hitters as the Generals swept both games of a Region 3 doubleheader over the Cannoneers in Herkimer.

Jessica Patterelli went 4-for-7 with a home run and four RBIs for Herkimer County Community College (18-1, 15-0). Jessica Dobson-Tufo had an RBI double in game one for JCC (2-8).
