C-P Honor Society donates $1K to Hospice

COLTON - Each winter, the Colton-Pierrepont National Honor Society organizes a cross-country ski and snowshoe-a-thon that takes place at Higley Flow State Park.

Together with their advisor, Melinda Miller, the students work to organize the event, promote it to the school and community and gather refreshments from local businesses. Their goal is to raise money to support the work Hospice does in the community.

“The students at Colton- Pierrepont have done a great job organizing this event for quite some time. In recent years, lack of snow has been a bit of a challenge, but the students and participants are great sports about it. Instead of skiing or snowshoeing it’s a nice winter hike, the trails at Higley are great and everyone always enjoys themselves,” said Brad Catling, director of development and community relations at Hospice.

Thanks to the support of the community, the Colton-Pierrepont NHS students raised a total of $1,055 to benefit Hospice this year.

The following local businesses made donations of food and other products to ensure that participants had a great selection of refreshments during the Ski and Snowshoe-a-thon: Wal-Mart of Potsdam, Freihoffer’s Bakery of Canton, Kinney Drugs of Maple Street, Potsdam, Price Chopper of Canton and Potsdam, Stewart’s Shop of Potsdam, Chip’s Place of Hanawa Falls, Kunoco Food Mart of Colton and Jeff Bristol.

“Fundraisers like this are very important to helping our work continue” Mr. Catling said. “This generosity allows us to provide extra services that help us maintain the dignity and comfort of our patients and ensure that their loved ones have the support they need. We are very grateful for the students of Colton-Pierrepont for organizing this benefit and to the community for their continuous support.”
