Karate School holds annual international championships

NORWOOD - The American Kang Duk Won Karate School recently conducted its 39th annual International Championships at Jefferson Community College in Watertown.

Area martial artists participated in sparring, formal exercises (kata), and traditional weapons competition. Approximately 300 members of American Kang Duk Won attended from New York, Ohio, and Ontario, Canada. The competitions represent one of the longest running traditional karate tournaments in the Eastern United States.

American Kang Duk Won Karate Black Belt instructors judged the competitions and presented special demonstrations throughout the day. North country regional instructors include Andrew Ellis, Mike Jackson, Chris Lewis, Mark Norman, Jennifer Palumbo, Elinore Rupp, John Rupp and Ron Sellers. Master Debbie Hintopoulos and Master Instructors Frank Palumbo (St. Lawrence County classes) were tournament directors.
