POTSDAM - The Potsdam Central varsity baseball team relayed a pair of big innings into a 10-2 win over Massena Central in the lone NAC Central Division matchup completed on Wednesday.

The game started on Tuesday but was called after less than one inning due to rain and the teams pickedup where they left off. The Sandstoners took early control with a four-run outburst in the second then answered the only two Massena runs in the top of the third with a decisive five-run barrage in the bottom of the fifth.

“Any time you beat Massena it’s a good win,” notched coach Chris Donah after his squad improved its early-season record to 2-0 while spoiling the Raiders season debut. “I thought we played well all-around today. We got solid pitching. We didn’t make any errors and we did a good job of putting the ball in play.”

Junior Will Coleman limited the Raiders to just three hits in tossing a complete-game gem that included 16 strikeouts and four walks. Rory Corcoran (5H, 4K, 2BB) lasted into the fourth inning in taking the loss. David Phillips (7H, 2K, 0BB) closed out the game in relief.

Coleman and battery-partner Andrew Ace anchored a balanced Potsdam offense with three hits apiece. Coleman drilled a pair of doubled, scored three times and drove in a run while Ace drove in a solo run and scored another. Devin Delaney and Morgan Sutliff both had RBI-singles and scored solo runs. Ben Miller also poled an RBI-single. Brandon Noble singled and scored twice while Shawn Clark singled and came around to score a solo run.

Zack Rusaw highlighted the Massena effort with a two-out, two-run double to deep centerfield that scored Isaiah Dillabough and Connor Paquin with the Raider runs. Dillabough and Jake Ward each singled to account for the other Massena hits.

The Sandstoners have a busy four-day stretch scheduled with games at Gouverneur this afternoon, at Franklin Academy on Friday and then against Norwood-Norfolk on Saturday. The Raiders are also slated to be busy with interdivisional games at Norwood-Norfolk this afternoon and then against St. Lawrence Central on Saturday.

Losing pitcher Zach Burnett doubled and scored two runs for the Panthers.

Jake St. Mary struck out five in a five-inning nightcap for B-M where Zach Burnett drove in three runs with a pair of doubles. Adam Martin doubled and scored for the winners.

McLaughlin and St. Hillaire both singled and scored for SLC and Zane Ramsdell went the distance on the mound.
