Fort Drum soldier arrested on child porn charges

State police investigators have arrested a Fort Drum soldier on child pornography charges.

The soldier, Sgt. Eumockus G. Thomas, 32, of 19 N. Main St., Adams, was charged on Tuesday afternoon with promoting a sexual performance by a child, a Class D felony, and possession of a sexual performance by a child, a Class E felony.

He was arrested following a four-month investigation by state police with the assistance of U.S. Secret Service and Fort Drum military police.

Sgt. Thomas was arraigned in Adams Village Court and remanded to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building in lieu of $10,000 bail, pending grand jury action.

State police Investigator Stephen P. Kealy declined to comment on how police found out about the child pornography or who reported it. According to the state police website, it was reported March 13.

The post’s public affairs office said Sgt. Thomas is a signal support systems specialist with the 3-10 General Support Aviation Battalion, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade. The brigade is deploying about 1,800 soldiers to Afghanistan in the next month. Sgt. Thomas was supposed to deploy with the brigade but had been moved to its rear detachment, keeping him in the area.
