Heuvelton bands stay unbeaten

HEUVELTON - The combination of sold pitching and very solid hitting propelled Heuvelton Central to matching 4-0 records in Wednesday’s NAC West Division Baseball/Softball action.

The Lady Bulldogs won a match of unbeatens downing Lisbon (2-1) 11-4 while Jack Palmer allowed just two baserunners in six innings as the HCS Boys recorded a 9-1 win.

Morristown outscored Hammond 19-1 in baseball play while Harrisville topped Edwards-Knox 4-1 and Clifton-Fine defeated Hermon-DeKalb 9-1.

Hammond evened its record at 1-1 in softball with a 8-3 win against Morristown while Edwards-Knox tripped up Harrisville 13-11 and Clifton-Fine denied Hermon-DeKalb 5-4.

SOFTBALL

Heuvelton 11 -4 Lisbon 4 - Alexis Weidner struck out six and pitched five scoreless innings, as the Bulldogs built an 8-0 lead, cruising to a complete victory. A victory backed by a winning offense which saw nine players contribute to a 15-hit collection.

“Lisbon swung the bats well today but our girls are just hitting everything right now. They are really on a roll,” said Heuvelton Coach Josie Cole.

Catcher Hannah Thornhill, who homered earlier this season at Hermon-DeKalb, led the roll ripping four singles to drive in four runs and scored four times.

Weidner aided her own cause with a single and three RBIs and Alexis Sawyer (3 runs) and Rachel Thornhill both singled and doubled.

Logan Tallman (2 runs) singled twice and Abbey Basford, Paige McCormick, Abby Williams and Shelby Williams all stroked singles.

Natalia Pitts doubled for the Knights and Gabby Walker, Lindsey Remington, Alyshia Murray, Katie Sovie and Emily Dishaw all stroked singles.

Hammond 8, Morristown 3: Alyssa Crosby rapped a two run triple in first and Taylor Bowman connected for a two run triple in fourth for the Devils who received a six hitter from Mikayla Horton.

Crosby supplied two singles, a triple and scored four runs while Bowman ripped a single and a triple. Horton, Lindsay Martin, Gabby Marshall and Cassi Whalen each singled for the winners.

Taylor Piercey went the distance on the MCS mound while Liz Troiano and Karissa Bertrand doubled and Sam Green added a pair of singles. Margret Troiano and Piercey singled.

C-F 5, H-D 4: Kristen Meek didn’t walk a batter in a five hitter and lined a double and a single for C-F. Alison Rust chipped in a pair of singles and Ali Hitchman, Delaney Kerr and Erica Daniels each singled.

Courtnay Davis and Chelsey MacKay each tripled for H-D. Sabrina Wood doubled while Rhys Bryant and Courtney Harrington each singled.

MacKay also struck out six pitching in relief.

E-K 13, Harrisville 11: Makayla Bacon smacked a double and two single and Dakotah Bacon and Harleigh LeBarge each singled twice to lift the Cougars. Heather Finnerty, Molly Burgher, and Katrina Moore also doubled for the winners who received a single from McKenzie Hall.

Jena Soper belted a homerun and three singles for Harrisville. Sam Rounds added a double while Mallory Baker lined three singles and Emory Matott singled twice. Harleigh LeBarge (6K’s) pitched the win with relief help from Makayla Bacon (3K).

BASEBALL

Heuvelton 9, Lisbon 1: Jack Palmer retired the first 12 batters while the Bulldogs built a 6-0 lead and went on to strike out seven and allow just one one hit and two baserunners in six innings.

“Jack Palmer threw just a great game for us and it was good to get Mike Martin some work on the mound in the seventh,” said Heuvelton Coach Dave Steele.

Cody Holland led the winning offense with a triple and a single and Jon Sloan drilled a double and a single to drive in three runs. Sloan and Palmer both lined two-out two-run singles in the second inning. Aaron Cobb, Mike Martin and Lucas Brown all singled for the winners and Joe McDonnell chipped with an RBI.

“It was just one of those games where we missed chances to make key plays and Heuvelton came through with key hits,” said Lisbon Coach Jeff Houmiel.

Reilly Alberto accounted for both Lisbon hits with a single in the fifth inning and a long RBI single in the seventh inning.

Morristown 19, Hammond 1: Bobby Simmons went four innings striking out eight in the win. Simmons, John Love, and Luke King each singled twice while Tyler Delosh added a triple and Dakota Marshall smacked a double and single. Jacob Fox and Ryan Vollmer each contributed a single.

Delosh and Marshall (two innings, 5 strikeouts) pitched in relief.

Brock Tulley and Nolan Martin each singled twice for Hammond. Chris Sherron added a double and Collin Martin and Zach Cunningham singled.

Harrisville 4, E-K 1: Nate Weaver went the distance for the Pirates (2-1) and Justin Hartle delivered a key two run double in the three-run first inning. Josh Bearse and Chris Sullivan each singled.

Nick Davison supplied a single and a double for E-K and Chris Davison singled to back Nick Davison’s complete game.

C-F 9, H-D 1: Matt Russell fanned 12 batters and allowed one walk in six innings for C-F and Logan Hayes supplied three hits. Emmitt Shaul and Dawson Kerr each added two hits while Russell and Mike Rust singled and Adam Locke doubled. Cameron Hance supplied two hits for H-D. Adam Harmer chipped in a single and Ryan Matthews scored the lone H-D run.
