To The Editor:
Congratulations to the Massena Minor Hockey and Potsdam Youth Hockey Tier II teams that competed in the USA Hockey National Tournaments in Charlotte, N.C. and San Jose, Calif.
The St. Lawrence Thunder 14U Boys, St. Lawrence Thunder 14U Girls, and The Potsdam 16U Girls Ice Storm were true competitors and represented the north country extremely well.
The success that the teams attained is a true testament to the dedication of not only the players but the coaches and parents as well. Their commitment to these teams began last August and continued into April.
It is truly amazing that they were able to juggle schoolwork, family commitments, practices and many weekend tournaments and games.
The second place finishes for the Thunder Boys and Ice Storm Girls is most impressive. The Thunder Girls lost a heart-breaker in the semi-finals after winning a game that went into six overtimes. Yes, hockey is alive and well in Northern New York.
Thank you to the wonderful media coverage given to all three teams. Sandy Cook at WMSA Radio and the sports writers at the Daily-Courier Observer kept everyone abreast of the teams standings. We really appreciate your support.
An African proverb states that it takes an entire village to raise a child. This spring it took the entire north country to send these teams to their national tournaments. Thank you to all of those people who assisted in this amazing endeavor. Your financial support and many words of encouragement helped immensely.
Well done, Thunder and Ice Storm.
