MADRID -Defending NAC East Champion Madrid-Waddington started its title defense on Thursday with a 14-3 win over Chateaugay at Jim Rishe Field.

After getting out of an early jam, Greg Thompson calmed down and fanned 11, walked two and surrendered five hits - two to losing pitcher Greg Holmes (both doubles) in a complete game win.

Zach Brock finished 3-4 with a double and four RBIs for M-W which scored eight times in the second inning. Harrison VanBuren went 2-3 day with a triple and a double and two RBIs. Mike Thew chipped in double and a single and three RBIs. Jacob Barney, Jim Miller, and Terry Crump (RBI) also singled.

Zach Cowan, Nick Ashline, and Devin LaBare each singled.

NAC WEST

E-K 31, Hammond 9: Terry Hall belted a solo homerun and ripped a single, Kaden Dandrow finished 4-5 with a double with six RBIs, Tyler Sharpstene went 5-7 with three RBIs and Derek Clark went 4-6 with four RBIs to lead the Cougarsh.

For Hammond, Nolan Martin and Jon Winchester each stroked three singles while Chris Sherron singled twice. Tyler Sharpestein pitched the win with three innings of relief of starter Devin Sharlow.
