Local college roundup: VanDeValk’s 5 goals pace Golden Knights


OSWEGO — Katie VanDeValk scored five goals to lead the Clarkson University women’s lacrosse team to a 13-8 win over SUNY Oswego in a nonconference game on Thursday.

Alyssa Cristaldi scored three goals with three assists for the Golden Knights (8-4 overall). Christine Wright scored twice for Clarkson and Nicole Kelly, Kerrie Cline and Noelle Miller also scored.

Erannan Shattuck, Mackenzie Kjerstad and Becky Guess scored two goals for the Lakers (5-7).

n Kelly Leonard threw a two-hit shutout and struck out six to lead Hamilton College to a 5-0 softball win over SUNY Potsdam in the first game of a nonconference doubleheader in Clinton Thursday. Hamilton took game two, 8-5.

Leonard also led Hamilton (9-18) at the plate, going 2-for-2 in the opener. Ellie Kiernan went 3-for-3 and drove in three runs and Lauren Fairman homered in game two for Hamilton. Amanda Perry went 2-for-4 for the Bears (7-15) in the nightcap.

n Jessica Dobson-Tufo tripled, doubled and belted a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning as Jefferson Community College’s softball team completed a doubleheader sweep of Genesee CC with a 7-5 win in Region III play in Albion. Dobson-Tufo drove in four games in the second game for the Cannoneers (6-8) and Samantha Giruzzi, the winning pitcher in both games, doubled and singled twice. JCC won the opener, 11-6.
