SUNY Canton names Sarah Arsenault new women’s soccer head coach

CANTON - SUNY Canton is pleased to announce that Sarah Arsenault has joined the athletic department as the new head women’s soccer coach.

Arsenault takes over for Kate Thomas-Moody, who resigned earlier this year after three years guiding the program.

“Sarah brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to our women’s soccer program,” said Athletic Director Randy B. Sieminski. “Her knowledge and success at outstanding NCAA institutions such as Hamilton College and Waynesburg University will serve her well in developing and growing our program.“

Arsenault spent the past three years as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s soccer teams at Waynesburg University in Pennsylvania. She also served as interim head coach at the college in 2011. Prior to coaching with the Yellow Jackets, Arsenault spent three years as an assistant coach for the women’s soccer team at Hamilton College, where she helped guide the Continentals into the Liberty League championship game her second season. She has also been an assistant coach at both Washington and Jefferson College and her alma mater Slippery Rock University, and she spent one year as the head coach of the women’s soccer team at Salem International University.

As a player at Slippery Rock, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in sports management, Arsenault had a remarkable four-year career scoring 70 goals, an all-time school record. She was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year (2001), a two-time Player of the Year (2003, 2004), and a four-time All-Conference pick. She was named to the NSCAA All-Region Team three straight years and was named an NSCAA First Team All-American as a junior.

The Roos, who will enter their second season as a provisional member of the NCAA in the fall, have a challenging schedule in 2013 against several quality Division III programs. SUNY Canton opens their season with a home tournament August 31-September 1.
