MASSENA - Village police are continuing their investigation into a reported theft of two handguns from a Massena residnece Friday night.

Massena Village Police Chief Tinmy J. Currier said police located a person of interest as part of that investigation Sunday night in the Maple Street area in the 9 p.m. hour Sunday. “We located him, and he fled on foot and as a result of that there was a foot pursuit in the Maple Street area.” he said.

Village police were joined by state police, U.S. Border Patrol and Department of Environmental Conservation in a search that included stops at Shoreline Apartments, Calvary Cemetery and the Maple Street trailer park. The person of interest was not located.

Mr. Currier declined to identify the person of interest Monday morning, but sources familiar with the case say he is a 21 year old originally from Brockton, Mass., that was released in early March from the state Department of Corrections Willard Substance Abuse Treatment Center, where he had been serving a sentenced handed down in St. Lawrence County Court for a grand larceny conviction.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
