POTSDAM - In recognition of National Volunteer Week (April 21-27), Canton-Potsdam Hospital is honoring its 132 patient relations volunteers who serve the hospital, patients and staff as greeters, spiritual care providers, gift shop managers and clerks, service excellence and patient safety advocates, and a variety of other roles where they provide additional support. Over the duration of 2012, these individuals logged more than 18,300 hours of service doing what they do so well - caring.

“Our volunteers are an important part of providing exceptional care. Often the first point of contact for our patients and visitors, their warm smiles and caring personalities help even the youngest and most excitable patients feel safe and comfortable while they are here to heal,” said Lyndsay Macagg, volunteer coordinator. “While we’ve been implementing new processes, technology, and software at the hospital, our volunteers have not missed a beat. They understand the pace and support our goals,” Macagg added. “Beyond donating their time to CPH, their generosity is felt throughout the north country. Most recently, the group completed its first ‘Adopt a Platoon’ program supporting Fort Drum soldiers serving overseas.”

CPH volunteers have been supporting the hospital since it was established in the 1920’s. Now, more than 80 years later, the hospital is fortunate to have numerous volunteers who serve in a multitude of ways, including 132 patient relations volunteers, 20 members of the hospital Board of Directors, 17 members of the Foundation Board of Directors, and 36 board members of the two Hospital Guilds. In addition, more than 300 corporate members serve as ambassadors of the hospital and are invited to an annual Corporate Meeting in late May.

Among the activities that the hospital has planned for National Volunteer Week are a recognition reception and an appreciation dinner, which includes an awards ceremony where invited volunteers are recognized for their dedicated service and long-standing commitment to healthcare.

Congratulations to those CPH volunteers who are reaching a milestone anniversary this year: Terry Rossi (25 Years), Joanne Foisy (20 Years), Mary Clary (15 Years), Donna Jean Bridgman (10 Years), Marni Brown (10 Years), Sandi DiGiovanna (10 Years), Shelley Mason (10 Years), Kathy Warr (10 Years), Kenny Ashley (5 Years), Jim Barnes (5 Years), Marge Barnes (5 Years), Hank Domingos (5 Years), Mary Enslow (5 Years), Bob Gibbs (5 Years), Bill Lewis (5 Years), Trish Lewis (5 Years), Emily Nolan (5 Years), Mary Lynn Smith (5 Years), Sherry Theobald (5 Years), Walt Theobald (5 Years), and Claudette VanEss (5 Years).
