Lowville hospital names new clinic nurse manager

LOWVILLE — A longtime employee at Lewis County General Hospital has been tapped to oversee staff at its clinics.

Kathy M. Millard, who has worked at the facility since 1983, will be clinic nurse manager, a position that has been vacant since the departure of Tina M. Kerfien roughly six months ago.

“This is an extremely important position,” hospital CEO Eric R. Burch said in a prepared statement. “Kathy has both the clinical and managerial experience, and her knowledge of our facility, physicians and staff will be an advantage as she transitions into her new role.”

The clinic nurse manager oversees the staff at the primary care clinics in Beaver Falls, Lyons Falls, Copenhagen and Harrisville, as well as the surgery and obstetrics/gynecology offices, according to a hospital release.

Mrs. Millard since August 2002 has worked here as a registered nurse and staff development coordinator.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Institute of Technology, Utica, and was valedictorian of her registered nurse class at St. Elizabeth College of Nursing, Utica. She is board certified in nursing professional development.

“This is more of a leadership role and a new aspect of nursing that I haven’t done yet,” Mrs. Millard said in a statement. “I am also looking forward to working with all of our physicians and staff to enhance care at all of the clinics.”

Mrs. Millard serves on the board of directors for the Lowville Food Pantry, the hospital’s wellness team and nursing excellence committee and is the team leader for the United Way employee fund drive. She also leads various fundraisers for cystic fibrosis research and volunteers at many other community events.
