AKWESASNE – Mr. Ronald “Ronnie” Boots, 56, of 225 McComber Road, Cornwall Island, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 23, 2013 at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, where had been a patient since April 3rd. He had been in Cornwall Community Hospital for the previous week.

Ronnie was born June 13, 1956 in Cornwall, the son of the late Jonas Boots and Pauline White Boots. He attended grade school on Cornwall Island, Central Public Middle Schools and graduated from General Vanier High School. After high school, he entered the US Army, where he was serving with the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After his discharge, he graduated from Canton ATC with a degree in Mechanical Drafting and Electrical Blueprint Reading.

He was an ironworker for many years with Local #711 in Montreal; having worked in New York City, Connecticut, New Jersey, Boston, New Hampshire, St. Louis, Missouri, Toronto, and Hamilton, Ontario. Ronnie was a former member of the Andrew W. Cook American Legion Post #1479 and the American Legion Post #1143 in Massena. As an avid sky diver, he was a member of the Sky Diving Club in Malone for many years. He enjoyed hockey, reading, flying airplanes and had been working to get his flying license. He was an avid Montreal Canadians hockey fan.

Ronnie is survived by his three daughters, Yoland Thomas, Kasey Thomas, and Allison Boots; three sons, Ian Boots, Blaine Thomas; and Ronnie Boots; five grandchildren, Kyler, Destiny, Kora, Kameko, and Bruce; his mother, Pauline Boots of Cornwall Island; four brothers, Kevin Boots and Wayne and Karen Boots, all of Cornwall Island; Robert Boots of Rooseveltown; and Peter and Cindy Boots of Cornwall; five sisters, Sandra Boots of Cornwall Island; Cecelia and Michael Guay of Summerstown; Belva and Dan Garrow of Snye; Darlene and Peter Adams of Snye; Patricia “Dea” and Jackie Smith of Hogansburg.

He is also survived by his uncle and godfather, Phillip “Sonny” Boots of Cornwall Island; two additional uncles, Teddy Thompson and Joe Benedict, both of Snye; an aunt, Charmaine Boots of Onondaga; two godsons, Floyd Thomas, Jr. of Cornwall Island and Stevie Ray Adams of Snye; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ronnie was predeceased by his father, Jonas Boots on October 17, 1996; his brother, Kenneth Boots on March 12, 2013; two additional brothers and a sister in infancy; his paternal grandparents, Peter Boots and Elizabeth Sawatis; his maternal grandparents, John White and Anna Papineau; an uncle, Louis White; and his aunts, Mary (Boots) Benedict, Shirley Thompson, and Margaret Edwards.

Friends may call at the home of his sister, Dea and Jackie Smith, 133 State Route 37, Hogansburg, beginning at 4:00 PM Thursday until 12:00 PM Saturday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday 1:00 PM at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Pastores, celebrating. Burial will be later in the spring at Kateri Cemetery.
