To The Editor:
Phase one of replacement of pictures in the East Orvis Street display is complete with the photographing of nearly 50 photos of homes in the Massena arena. While not all will be used, they do present an interesting scope of houses that show notable instances of home from the past and some from the present.
As the sport pictures were used in panel no. 1, these homes will seek to complement the pictures of individuals and families yet to be submitted. A number of questions might be asked about the houses selected and for the most part choices were based on: age, uniqueness of design, enduring care and up-keep, and original materials continuance. Many houses were shown to be exemplary in their modern design, upkeep and surroundings and owners should be very proud at the maintenance of their home. Sadly many homes I observed were in less than original condition and I might add, that many houses had received modern material make-overs. That is not a bad thing, but with this exercise, I tried very hard to seek out originality and that is why some newer houses are mixed in with the senor structures.
Prior to the sealing of the We Are Massena panel, a listing of all the houses will be published, so individuals can see if their home was selected. At that time, instructions will be given for responding to the list and directions given.
Finally, the most important part of the ongoing project in East Orvis Street Park is you. Submitting family pictures/both individuals and group are what the panel is really all about. Last year we had a terrific response but regrettably, several people waited too long and their pictures didnt appear.
I have saved those over to this year and they will be the first to go in. The panel is planned to be finished by June 1, so Im asking that all pictures be submitted to the Massena Chamber Office by May 15. Color or black and white photos, 5x7 and if a valued photo, should be noted so a copy will be made. To meet the June date, I really need the two weeks to get everything in place, so dont wait and get left out.
For specific questions, please call the Chamber Office at 769-3225 during business hours. Mailed photos can be sent to the chamber or to 19 Dover St., Massena.
