More than 9,100 people and companies in the state have forgotten more than $1.1 million in checks issued by Excellus Health Plan, including Excellus BlueCross BlueShield.
That money is in the form of unclaimed checks issued in 2009 to members and providers. Printed legal notices listed by county will appear in regional newspapers this week, according to a company news release.
Excellus President and Chief Executive Officer Christopher C. Booth said if the money remains unclaimed it will go to the state.
To claim a check before Aug. 31, people can call the number on their Excellus identification card, or find other information online. A complete list of names of people and companies with checks to claim is on the Excellus website, www.excellusbcbs.com/forgottenfunds.
