Heuvelton bands lone unbeatens in West

And then there were two.

Two unbeatens in the Northern Conference diamond circuits and they are both from Heuvelton.

Heuvelton’s baseball and softball teams matched 6-0 records on Thursday with wins over Edwards-Knox. The Harrisville boys and Lisbon girls stayed one-game off the pace at 5-1 on a day of high scoring action where Hammond swept Hermon-DeKalb.


Hammond 7, H-D 6: A Chris Sherron single scored Nick Jewitt for the tying run with one out and Collin Martin scored from thirdbase on a passed ball in the bottom of seventh inning for the Devils who snapped a four game slide.

Jewitt finished with a pair of doubles and a single for Hammond (2-4) while Martin lined a double and two singles. Nolan Martin, Brock Tulley, Adam Bickelhaupt, and Brandon Fleming singled.

Tim Harmer supplied a double and a single for H-D (0-6). Ryan Matthews added a pair of singles while Patrick Woodrow double and Ryan Brown and Macaulay Snell each singled.

Collin Martin (13 Ks) and Brock Tulley (4K) combined on a 17-strikeout win.

Brad Weller fanned 15 batters for H-D.

Heuvelton 17, E-K 2: Mike Guardino and Aaron Cobb produced four hits each to back up a combined six hitter from Jack Palmer (4Ks 4 inn) and Cody Holland (3Ks, 2 inn).

Matt Guardino connected for three basehits while Palmer also singled for HCS (6-0).

Nick Davison supplied two singles for 3-2 E-K. Tyler Sharpestene, Devin Sharlow, Derek Clark, and Trent White each singled.

Harrisville 9, Morristown 5: Nathan Weaver connected for a triple and two singles and Nick Weir laced a double and three singles lifting the 5-1 Pirates. Justin Hartle (5 inn) and Weaver weather 11 MCS hits pitching the win.

Joey Butts and Tim Fowler each connected for a double and a single for Harrisville which scored four runs in the fifth for a 9-5 lead. Hartle and Chris Sullivan each ripped two singles, Jared Dreythaler added a double and Chris Graham single.

Dakota Marshall connected for two doubles and a single for Morristown (3-2) while Luke King smacked a triple and a single for Morristown. Ryan Vollmer added a double and a single while Bobby Simmons doubled. Karter VanArnam chipped in two basehits while Devin Dulmage added a single hit. Jacob Fox took the loss striking out six and allowing four walks.

C-F 17, Lisbon 16 (8 Innings): Andrew Hartman laced a single to score Mike Rust who singled with two outs in the eighth inning for the Eagles (2-3). Dawson Kerr picked up the win in relief of Matt Russell.

Logan Hayes connected for two doubles and three singles in C-F’s 20-hit offense. Matt Russell smacked a triple, a double and two singles.

For Lisbon (1-5), Adam Kelley lined three doubles and a single while James Darcy added a double and two singles.

SLC 18, P-H 2: Zane Ramsdell (6 Ks) and Hayden St. Hilare (5Ks) combined for a five inning four hitter. Ramsdell smacked a three run triple to key the attack for the Larries.

Josh Taber lined a double and a single and scored four runs for SLC.


Heuvelton 14, E-K 3: Logan Tallman and Miranda Donnelly combined on a one-hitter for the Bulldogs (6-0) at E-K. Hannah Thornhill belted a double and a single while Tallman, Abby Basford, and Abbey Williams each singled twice. Shelby Williams smacked a double and Rachel Thornhill and Alexis Sawyer connected for timely singles. Harleigh LeBarge singled for the Cougars (3-1).

Hammond 19, H-D 17: It was a tale of two halves, sort of, as H-D built a 11-3 lead through the first three innings and to see host Hammond post a six-run fourth inning anchored by a Alyssa Crosby grand slam homerun and a eight run sixth keyed by two two-run singles from Emily Bush, Courtney Marcellus and Macy Wilson for a 19-16 lead and the win for the 3-2 Red Devils.

Crosby (4 runs) had a single to complement the grand slam for Hammond while Bush smacked three singles and Brianne Langtry and Wilson each singled twice. Winning pitcher Mikayla Horton and Martin each had a hit.

Xann Gotham connected for a triple, a double, and two singles and six RBIs for H-D (1-5). Jenn Gotham lined three singles and a double while Courtnay Davis added three single san Clarrisa Davis chipped in a double and single. Brooke Woodrow, Courtney Harrington, and Rhys Bryant also singled.

Harrisville 24, Morristown 9: Jena Soper smacked a grand slam homerun, launched a triple and drilled two singles leading the 3-4 Pirates. Emma Matott smacked two doubles and a single while Ema Harper added a double and a single as Hannah Weaver pitched the wind.

Taylor Piercey belted a solo homerun for 0-5 Morristown, Jessica Geddes ripped three singles while Liz Troiano added a double and a single.

Lisbon 14, Clifton-Fine 4: A seven run first inning keyed the 5-1 Knights road win. Katie Sovie smacked a triple and a single and Natalia Pitts, Gabby Walker, and Nicole Neadom each connected for two hits backing up Alyshia Murray’s complete game. Delaney Kerr lined a triple and three singles for C-F ((1-4). Mallory Folsom added a double and a single.

SLC 18, P-H 0: Lindsay Thayer scattered five hits and struck out 13 in five innings. Noelle Rufa went 4-5 with a double and Thayer finished 4-5 for SLC. Kodie Perkins supplied two singles for the Panthers.
