The OFA Girls Lacrosse team really needed a win as it hosted Salmon River on Thursday.

Coming off two disappointing losses and a heart-wrenching one-goal loss to undefeated Potsdam, the Lady Devils (2-5 2-3 NAC) methodically secured a 15-5 victory.

“We really needed a win today and the girls went out and got it. And it was a nice win because it was a team effort. Courtney Sherwin anchored our defense and Nicole Hammond did a nice job moving out of the defense and getting involved in the offense,” said OFA Coach Lauren Morley who will lead her team into nonleague action at General Brown today.

“We had some different people score today, Kaitlin Sheppard had her best scoring day of the season with four goals and four assists, our ball movement was very good and defensively we did a nice job of sliding over.”

Sheppard’s four goals and four assists led the winning offense which featured excellent transition sequences highlighted by Nicole Hammond advancing from the defensive backfield to score three goals.

Mackenzie Bresett delivered a series of solo rushes through traffic in netting two goals with one assist and Carly Garrison tallied a pair of goals with some well-timed moves around the net. Sky Hoover delivered one goal and one assist, Hunter Shaver scored once and Zendel Cordwell passed out an assist.

OFA’s netminding combination of Erica Chase and Marissa Foster combined for five saves and Kierra Pyke finished with six saves for Salmon River which impressed Coach Morley with its open field capabilities.

“Salmon River was a very fast team which made some excellent runs,” she said.

“They were very aggressive but they were just too aggressive at times and picked up a lot penalties in the defensive zone.”

Jaiden Mitchell and Victoria Thompson each scored two goals for SR (0-4, 0-3 NAC) and Jena Thompson netted a solo marker.
