To The Editor:
To the taxpayers of Massena:
Hi, my name is Kiara Holloway. I am a student at Alternative Education, and Im in eighth grade.
This program has made a huge impact on my life. If it wasnt for the teachers at Alt -Ed taking me in and helping me, I would most likely be expelled. This school is like a home not only to me, but to all the other students who go here.
Everyone looks forward to coming to school here. Everyones a family, we all know each other, and we all get along. Yeah, we may have our problems from time to time but we love each other.
If this program was to be taken away from us, we would be heartbroken. If Alternative Education closes, they are tearing apart one big family. When I heard that our teachers like Van Alexander, Darcy LaBarge and Mr. Mittiga were getting laid off, I cried for an hour straight.
Van Alexander, our guidance counselor, is amazing. If you ever have a problem, hes always there to talk to. If he can tell youre upset or something, he will make jokes just to make you laugh.
Darcy LaBarge, well shes amazing too. Shes like a second mom to pretty much everyone in the school. Even though shes a teachers assistant, shes also like another counselor. Shes always there for everyone. Everyone trusts her with everything.
As for Mr. Mittiga, hes an amazing social teacher.
When I went to the junior high, I failed pretty much everything. Now, Im passing everything with 80s and 90s. The way the teachers at Alt Ed teach is different, and I learn much easier.
If they take the Alternative Program away, people are just going to drop out. Some of the kids at our school cant learn in a regular school, like the high school or the junior high because there are too many people and not enough teachers to help you.
So, please help save the Alternative Education Program.
