OGDENSBURG – Rebeccas Designs & Alterations has arrived in the city as a mixture of tuxedo rentals, alterations and fashion studio.
The store, at 30 Lafayette St., opened in early March and has been inundated with business since then, according to Rebecca J. Brooks, co-owner.
I didnt realize how busy it was going to be, Mrs. Brooks said.
She and her husband, Timothy, have been in the design and alteration business on and off for about 20 years.
Ive been sewing since I was 12, Mrs. Brooks said. Its just my niche in life.
When they lived in Ohio, Mrs. Brooks was popular for her specially designed scrubs for area nurses.
Nurses would leave her store with holiday patterns, spider web cuffs and tie-dyed pants to spice up the hospitals and nursing homes.
Now that theyve been in the Ogdensburg area for about eight years, Mr. and Mrs. Brooks decided to get back to what they love.
We loved the area so we decided to strike up the business here, Mr. Brooks said.
The store has a wide range of tuxedos, prom dresses and wedding dresses available.
We mainly do alterations and tuxedo rentals, Mr. Brooks said.
But Mrs. Brooks also designs her own dresses, wedding veils and vests for clients with the help of Mr. Brooks, and they plan to expand into other areas as well.
On May 11, Mr. and Mrs. Brooks are planning a Mothers Day buffet from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Dobisky Center.
The dinner will be free while supplies last, Mrs. Brooks said.
She said the dinner is both a celebration of their new business and a way to say thank-you to the people who have supported the shop so far.
Rebeccas Designs & Alterations is open from noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and by appointment Friday and Saturday.
