John D. Chamberlain, 68, of 31214 Pinewood Dr., Black River, passed April 26, 2013 at his home surrounded by family.
He was born on August 30, 1944 in Watertown, son of the late Glenn E. and Margaret M. Dowling Chamberlain. He graduated from IHA.
Mr. Chamberlain entered the US Army on June 3, 1969 and served in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on December 3, 1970 and received the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and Good Conduct Medal.
He worked at Fort Drum in the plumbing department and environmental services for 27 years, retiring in 1998.
He married Joanne Constance on August 31, 2002 at the light house in Cape Vincent. The couple resided in Black River.
A previous marriage to Donna Chamberlain ended in divorce.
Mr. Chamberlain was Past Commander at the Black River American Legion, Past County Commander for the American Legion and member of VFW Post 1400, Watertown.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Among his survivors are his wife, Joanne D. Chamberlain, Black River; three sons and a daughter in law, Cody and Jenna Thomas, Ft. Carson, CO, Todd Chamberlain, England, Craig Chamberlain, NYC; two daughters and a son in law, Cassandra and Gered Baker, Ft. Polk, LA, Heather Chamberlain, Watertown; a sister and brother in law, Susan and David Sevensen, Watertown; brother and sister in law, David and Paula Chamberlain, Watertown; mother in law, Dawn Grant, Cape Vincent; 4 grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Edward and Robert Chamberlain and a sister Diane Morse passed before him.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday Apr. 30 at the Bruce Funeral Home, Black River. Burial with military honors will follow in the Black River Cemetery.Calling hours will be 3-6 p.m. Monday, Apr. 29 at the funeral home.
