CMN director resigned April 5

Jocelyn D. Mejias, executive director of the Children’s Miracle Network of Northern New York at Samaritan Medical Center, resigned effective April 5, according to Samaritan spokeswoman Krista A. Kittle.

Mrs. Mejias intended to move, Ms. Kittle said, to be closer to family living in the South.

“Jocelyn was here for 14 years,” Ms. Kittle said. “The contribution she made to Children’s Miracle Network and the kids in the north country — it’s just a long list. She started the radiothon here with the Border 106.7. She really established new relationships with organizations in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties.”

The local CMN organization raises money to help sick and injured children throughout the north country.

Funds are awarded quarterly to families in need, and grants also are made to local hospitals and health organizations to help purchase pediatric equipment.

Mrs. Mejias said she may relocate to Tennessee or Georgia, where relatives live. She said it was simply time to “pass the torch.”

“Hopefully, someone can take it to greater heights than I did,” she said. “I loved helping those families.”

Mrs. Mejias said she hopes businesses and sponsors that have supported CMN in the past will “continue to make CMN the charity of choice.”

Ms. Kittle said Samaritan is looking to fill the open position, which now will be titled a Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals development manager.

According to the job description in an advertisement in the April 21 edition of the Times, the successful candidate will work under Elizabeth C. Fipps, Samaritan’s vice president of foundation and community services, “for increasing fundraising dollars, sponsor and donor relations and awareness of CMNH and for the day-to-day operations of CMNH.”

Ms. Kittle said Samaritan would like to fill the position as soon as possible, but will “wait until the right person comes along.” There is no specific application deadline.

Until the position is filled, some CMN job duties are being filled by the hospital’s and marketing staff.
