GOUVERNEUR — Gouverneur Central School Board of Education members adopted a budget Monday that raises the tax levy 3.5 percent.

The $32.6 million budget is up 3.91 percent overall, mostly because of increases in benefits and retirement costs, said Superintendent Lauren F. French.

A 0.6 guidance position has been eliminated.

The levy will rise from $5.2 million to $5.4 million. The district’s property tax cap was calculated at 6.08 percent.

Candidates for three available board seats are incumbents Barry R. Smith and Laurie M. Roberts and newcomer Lisa M. McGregor. Incumbent Roger B. Cook is not running.
