LOCAL AUTO RACING Typhair captures Evans Mills super stock debut

EVANS MILLS — Veteran super stocks driver Chris Typhair came across the finish line ahead of Rick Zeigler and J.R. Mooney on Saturday night as the Evans Mills Speedway opened its season.

John Sulivan won the trucks division race with Randy Mooney and Zach Strough finishing behind the leader. Zac Trusedail won the legends race with Chris Zieren and Tony Hanburg finishing in the top three. Brian Merckly captured the juniors feature with Sam Warren finishing second and Tristan Baez finished third.

Veteran sports compact driver Homer Dobransky captured the feature’s first race of the season with Tim Dunn taking second and Andrew Armstrong third. Randy Bowman won the fithunder stocks race, besting Dan Swem and Jon Williams across the finish line. Chris Raabe took the lead on the first lap and dominated the field in the modified feature. Brandon Hagan finished second and Jordan McCreadie was third.

n Billy Dunn of Watertown finished sixth in the big-block modified feature Saturday night at the Canandaigua Speedway. Matt Sheppard won the feature.

n The wrong winner was reported in Sunday’s Times for Friday’s night’s Empire Super Sprints race at Can-Am Motorsports Park. Steve Poirier won the first event of the season.
