NORWOOD - The Norwood Village Green Concert Series has programmed its 2013 season, the 40th annual season of the venerable Northern New York tradition. In 2013 the fully upgraded band shell will be used to its greatest potential up to this point in its history and the tradition of the series unique programming will continue.

The 2013 season will be a blockbuster, as befitting a 40th anniversary.

In recognition of this upcoming celebratory season some of the greatest artists of their genre have been programmed. Two exceptional jazz headliners including a Juno award winner, two diverse dance groups, a Grammy awarded Country and Americana singer, a much celebrated master storyteller, a very special gospel group, and a legendary Irish ensemble along with many local performers will be presented.

A celebratory season comes with a price. For the series this price for performers fees is considerably higher than any other season by over $4,000. It totals $37,450. It will be money well spent and will further enhance our area’s “sense of place” and community. It will do it through the arts on the most basic level - the arts in and of the community.

The presentation of the stellar lineup of performers continues the series’ efforts to provide access to artistic excellence for the public in a free, unique, inclusive and eclectic family setting. The series is endowed with a treasured audience base.

In the long history of the Norwood Village Green Concert Series has been able to present a wide variety of performers from elementary school, to local and regional artists, and to performing groups from every continent on the globe. Along the way it has presented artists that have achieved some of the most coveted awards in their fields including 12 Grammy winners, 14 Juno Winners, 2 Emmy winners, 14 International Bluegrass Music Association winners, 3 Blues Foundation award winners, 3 Maple Blues award winners, a recipient of the Order of Canada and a National Medal of Arts recipient. The width and breadth of these award winners continues to grow, as the creative process is valued in the programming. Most of the music, dance, storytelling and other arts genres are creations of the featured performer.

The Series is supported in part by the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency, with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. It is also supported by public monies from the town of Potsdam and the village of Norwood. Its primary support is from many organizations, foundations, businesses and individuals. The eight acoustic concerts are supported by The Sweetgrass Foundation.

The series continues to take donations by check. They can be mailed to: Norwood Village Green Concert Series, 3 Bicknell Street, Norwood, NY 13668. All contributions are tax deductable. Norwood Village Green Concert Series are free but there is a “pass the bucket”. Donations are encouraged and needed.
