LAFARGEVILLE- Freda M. Joles, 89, of Strawberry Lane, Clayton, formerly of LaFargeville died Monday, April 29, 2013 at Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown where she was a resident.
Born March 1, 1924 in Glen Park, she was the daughter of Leo and Ordia Bombard Hughto, and graduated from LaFargeville Central School in 1941 as salutatorian and the Watertown School of Commerce in 1942.
She married her high school sweetheart, Harold E. Joles of LaFargeville on July 31, 1942 at St. Johns Catholic Church parsonage in LaFargeville with Rev. Arthur View officiating. The couple had lived in LaFargeville all their married life until 1999 when they moved to Clayton to live at Strawberry Lane. The couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this past summer.
Mrs. Joles was employed at the First National Bank of LaFargeville, a legal secretary for Jefferson County Judge Milton Wiltsie in Watertown and later with the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1983 as the LaFargeville Postmaster
She enjoyed bowling, blueberry and strawberry picking and making homemade candy.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Harold, four sons and their wives, Michael and Betty, Dansville, Alan and Carrie, Las Vegas, NV, William and Joyce, Theresa and Donald and Mary, Nashua, NH; eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and a sister, Mayfred Downs, Rochester.
A brother, Donald Hughto and two sisters, Marjorie Dewey and Rosalind Harra died before her.
Services will be at the convenience of the family.
