Heuvelton’s NAC West roll continues; Morristown, Edwards-Knox win


HEUVELTON - It was a matter of the rich getting richer on Monday as Heuvelton downed Hammond 18-1 in NAC West Baseball action improving to 6-0 on the season.

The Bulldogs continued to string dominant wins as Chris Power came through with his best outing of the season on the mound with a 13-strikeout one-hitter where he did not walk a batter.

“This was a very big game for Chris Power. He really needed a game like that where he had great control,” said HCS Coach Dave Steele after the contest where Hammond hurler Nick Jewett produced the 2-4 Devils’ only hit with a second-inning single.

Power also went 3-for-5 with two RBIs in a winning offense which featured seven players with multiple hits. Matt Guardino led the way by doubling in a 4-for-5 outing and Mike Guardino and Jack Palmer (double, 2 RBIs) each delivered three hits.

Rounding out the Bulldog hitters were: Aaron Cobb (2 singles, 3 RBIs), Mike Martin (2 singles), Cody Holland (2 singles), Lucas Brown (single), Aidan Scagel (single) and Jon Sloan (single, RBI).

Meanwhile, Lisbon (1-6) lost a 10-9 battle at home with Edwards-Knox (3-3) and Morristown (5-2) rolled past 2-3 Clifton-Fine 15-4.

Edwards-Knox 10, Lisbon 9: The Cougars took advantage of eight untimely walks by Lisbon pitchers’ Alex Arduine (4 innings), Adam Kelley (2 innings) and David Turri (1 inning) who struck out nine combined. E-K scored three times in the sixth for a 9-5 lead and once in the seventh for a 10-7 lead.

Winning pitcher Tyler Sharpestene logged the win in relief of Nick Davison. Sharpstene, Davison and Kaden Dandrow (final two innings) fanned 13 and walked four.

Terry Hall stroked a triple and a single while Sharpestene singled twice. Chris Davison (3 runs scored), Dandrow, and Nick Davison each singled for E-K.

Adam Kelley, Don Duprey, and Riley Alberto each supplied two hits for Lisbon while Arduine, James Darcy each singled.

Morristown 15, C-F 4: Bobby Simmons crushed a homerun and ripped a single and fanned six in five innings for the win.

Tyler Delosh, Ryan Vollmer, and Devin Dulmage each stroked a double and a single while Luke King and Dakota Marshall each connected for a double. Karter VanArnam stroked two singles while Zach Kanaly and Jake VanArman each singled. Jacob Fox struckout two batters in two innings of relief. Matt Russell belted a homerun and two singles for C-F. Logan Hayes and Emmitt Shaul singled while Andrew Locke, Andrew Hartman and Trombley singled.
