An outpouring of community support has generated more than $6,000 for the family of Andrew Marilley.

The Watertown eighth-grader suffered a swimming injury and was air-lifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse on April 18.

A “Swim 4 Andrew”’ benefit, including a lap swim and bake sale, was held on Friday at Watertown High School to offset the family’s medical and travel expenses.

Marilley has been a varsity swimmer for two seasons and competed at the state meet in March as part of Watertown’s 200-yard medley relay. He also holds the all-time Frontier League record time in the 500 freestyle.

Marilley, who is now recovering at home, is the son of William and Andrea Marilley.
