Shayne Watson is set to sign a Division I letter of intent to attend Drexel University during a ceremony at 9:05 this morning in the Watertown High School gymnasium.

The Watertown senior, who has been diving for three years, competed at the state meet on March 1-2 at Webster-Schroeder high school in Webster.

“The main reason I decided on Drexel was for academics,” Watson said. “I’m excited to be diving as well.”

Watson is a two-time Frontier League diving champion. He qualified for states and set the 11-dive school record with a score of 440.85 during the league diving championships on Jan. 19 at South Jefferson. Earlier in the season, he scored 252.00 points to break his own school record for six dives. He finished fifth at the Section 3 overall finals and state qualifier.

Watson plans to major in biomedical engineering. He is the son of Mark and Lisa Watson.
