CORTLAND — Former Massena standout Zach Hopps scored four goals and assisted on two others to lead the top-seeded SUNY Cortland men’s lacrosse team to a 16-5 win over SUNY Potsdam in a State University of New York Athletic Conference semifinal on Wednesday.

Joe Slavik, Benjamin Dunlavey and Mike Cummings each added two goals for the Red Dragons (16-0).

Derek Frost and Pat Bonafede scored twice for the Bears (6-8) and Pat Morrill supplied the other goal.

SUNY CANTON 20, LYNDON STATE 4

Jason Thompson recorded six goals as SUNY Canton won a nonconference game in Lyndonville, Vt.

Chris Gamble and Greg Brangman each scored three goals and Patrick Connelly added two for the Kangaroos (6-6). Lyndon State fell to 1-12.

BASEBALL

ITHACA 15, ST. LAWRENCE 5

Matt Connolly went 5-for-5 and drove in five runs to lead the Bombers (32-6) past the Saints in a nonconference game in Ithaca.

Carter Franz and Kevin Prindle both produced two hits for St. Lawrence (17-14).

UTICA 6-2, SUNY CANTON 1-4

Jordan Hunneyman produced two hits in each game of a nonconference doubleheader, helping the Kangaroos (13-23) gain a split in Canton.

Gerardo Torres added a two-hit game for SUNY Canton in the nightcap, and Travis Legacy was the winning pitcher, striking out five. Vincent Burillo went 3-for-5 for the Pioneers (5-23) in game one.

SOFTBALL

ST. LAWRENCE 5-8, HAMILTON 4-3

Chelsea Cavellier’s five hits helped the Saints sweep a nonconference doubleheader in Clinton.

Aisha O’Connor went 3-for-3 in game one for SLU (20-15), and Kyle Plimpton struck out nine.

Leslie Stratton, Natasha Bell, Rebecca Allen and Caroline Kieltyka each recorded two hits in game two for the Saints.

MOHAWK VALLEY CC 7-3, JEFFERSON CC 5-2

The Hawks (20-14) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the second game and sweep a Region 3 doubleheader in Utica.

Paige Morgia hit a solo homer for the Cannoneers (9-17).

In the opener, Samantha Giruzzi smacked a two-run homer for JCC, and Jessica Dobson-Tufo finished 2-for-4 with a double.
