To The Editor:
Massena Music Friends held its first ever Trivia Night fundraiser the evening of April 20. And thanks to the generosity and support of so many businesses, organizations and individuals, boy, did we raise some funds!
First of all, MMF would like to thank the Massena Elks Lodge for so graciously hosting this event. It is always a pleasure to work with the Elks, who do so much fine work in the community.
Secondly, we must single out the incredible efforts of the Trivia event chairperson, Debbie Guimond. Debbie did the vast majority of the heavy lifting, from setting a date, obtaining a venue, recruiting teams, procuring auction items even filling snack bowls for the teams.
Debbie did it all and she did it gladly and with a smile. Thanks for joining the team, Deb. Another major element in the success and the fun of Trivia night was the Trivia master of ceremonies. Huge thanks to Todd Truax for volunteering his time, talent and equipment to this event. Oh, Debbie recruited Todd, as well.
You can plan an event until you are blue in the face, but without people to participate, no fundraiser can be fun much less raise any money.
We would like to thank our team participants for their patience with us as we felt our way through this initial Trivia Night experience, for their fair play and especially for their entry fees
Business and organizations who sponsored teams included Massena Savings and Loan, Community Bank, Seacomm, Drs. Luis Canales and Suzanne Daye, Blevins Seaway Motors, Fay Motors, Manley Insurance, Nadeaus, Coleman and Jerrys Hairstyling, Mystic Rays, Massena Kiwanis, VFW Ladies Auxilliary, and Massena Figure Skating Club.
We also had non-business support from the Bogosian Family, the Marshall Family, members of the NYSUT local, team Three Js and a Chuck, Team Clueless, Team The Long and the Short of It and team Thank God for Sitters.
Thanks to all of the team sponsors and participants for helping us exceed our wildest expectations. We had 14 teams sign up in advance, but ended up with 19, thanks to walk ins. Thank you.
We also had a number of businesses and individuals generously donate items for our auction that we held on Trivia night. These included Gone Fishin Fishing Charters, Massena Memorial Hospital, Patti Shirley, Debbie Guimond, Vino Vidi Vici, Massena Figure Skating Club, Mirror Reflections, John Tubbs, Clopmans and Massena Music Friends.
Thanks as well to everyone who volunteered to work the event, setting up, tearing down, scoring, running and other sundry tasks. These included Jo Ann Snider, Carol Pulley, Ellen Hodge, Shannon Harvey, Cosette Witte-Lewis, Ruth and Larry Dowdy, Pat Tubbs, Sue Haggett, Lorna Burley and Jill Edwards.
Students involved in the event included McKay Burley, Lucas Benedict, Bonnie and Sydney Lewis, Abby Truax, Tiffany Alderson and Matija Krcmar.
Wed also like to thank the local media, particularly Sandy Cook and Bob Beckstead, for their help with publicity, and once again to Todd Truax for publicizing the event on Q 102.9.
Congratulations to the first, second and third place teams, Thank God For Sitters, Massena Figure Skating Club Toe Picks and Nadeaus and to our 50/50 raffle winner, who, by the way, donated $100 of their winnings back to MMF.
Our Trivia Night fundraiser brings to a close MMFs major fundraising efforts for this school year. Thanks to the generosity and support of so many businesses and individuals.
Through our November Music Cabaret, Decembers Orchestra of Northern New York concert and Aprils Trivia night, weve raised over $6,200 for our school music programs in Massena.
Please be assured that we will use this money to help our outstanding music students and their dedicated and professional teachers maintain the excellence of their program.
