BRASHER FALLS: Malcolm “Mac” M. Mantle, 85, of County Rt 53, Brasher Falls, NY passed away Wednesday evening (May 1, 2013) at the Massena Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since Sunday (April 14, 2013) Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Surviving Mac is his wife of61 years, Lee Mantle, his daughter Carol and her husband David Kosulandich of Gouverneur, NY, his daughter Judy Cottrell of Orange, CA, his son, Les and his wife Noreen Mantle of Garden Grove, CA. his beloved six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mac also is survived by a brother Dr. Donald Mantle of Alexandria Bay, his sister Margaret “Peggy”McDonald of Massena, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Frank. Mac was born in Harrisville, NY September 1, 1927 the son of Clarence and Agnes (Wight) Mantle. At the age of 14, Mac received his diploma from Harrisville High School and entered the General Motors Institute for three years. At 17, he enlisted in the US Navy and was a veteran of three foreign wars (WWII, Korea and Vietnam). Mac also served his country as a US Marine in helicopter avionics and retired as Master Gunnery SGT in Orange, CA.

Following his honorable discharge Mac enjoyed working at Erickson Yachts in Newport Beach, CA and the Woodbridge Community at Irvine, CA, until his retirement at age 70. He married Nell Lee King November 13, 1951 in New Bern, NC. Mac and his wife relocated to the North Country 13 years ago. He enjoyed working outside, gardening, doing cross word puzzles and watching John Wayne movies, his favorite actor.
