White’s Lumber hosts 25th annual home show today

White’s Lumber aims to lure families planning outdoor projects to its 25th annual home show today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Dulles State Office Building, 317 Washington St. The two-day show, which kicked off Friday evening, is free to the public.

Forty-six vendors, entertainment for children, food and door prizes will make this year’s show appeal to families, said James P. Finnerty, manager of the White’s store in Watertown.

Door prizes will include hats and T-shirts, along with a swing set donated by White’s for the grand prize.

Those with questions on everything construction oriented, including roofing, siding, decking, railing, flooring, painting and kitchen design, will find experts equipped with knowledge, Mr. Finnerty said.

“Now is just the start of the season for families planning projects,” he said. Along with local companies, “national vendors and suppliers are well-represented at the show.”

For youngsters, today’s show will feature face painting, a story time, and Clifford the Big Red Dog from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A local magician will perform tricks from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Girl scouts from Mannsville, ages 5 through 12, will help host activities.

Carnival food and beverages sold by members of the General Brown Lions Club will include hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, chips and soda.

Tina J. Archer, White’s events coordinator, said the show last year drew more than 500 visitors from across the north country.

Though this year’s show is about a month later than usual, she’s optimistic there will be a strong turnout.

“We hope to have cooler weather to bring families inside,” she said.

White’s, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, has stores in Watertown, Gouverneur, Pulaski and Clayton.
