The Massena Central golf team picked up its first win of the season in the lone Division I matchup on Friday while Norwood-Norfolk suffered a pair of Division II losses in NAC meets on Friday.
Massena 226, Gouverneur 257: At the Gouverneur Country Club, Hunter Francis fired a two-under par 34 that included birdies on the third, fifth, seventh and ninth holes as the Raiders outshot the host Wildcats who were missing three regulars due to other personal commitments. Kendrick Swamp contributed a 43 toward the winning effort while Tyler Sunday and Brenden Dobbins both shot 47 and Shane Tarbell posted a 55. Mark Bender finished with a non-scoring 58.
For the Wildcats (0-3), Cade Stevens was low man with a 46 followed by Daniel Sweet with a 50, Cole Newvine with a 52, Alex Prespare with a 54 and Cody Hartle with a 55. Kacy Barley posted a non-scoring 61.
The Raiders (1-2) are slated to play on the road against Potsdam on Wednesday.
N-N EDGED TWICE
At Gilbert Greens in the Town of Oswegatchie, the Flyers were hoping to bounce back from their first NAC loss since 2010 but wound up dropping a pair of 3-2 decisions to host Heuvelton and Tupper Lake.
Winning both their matches for the Flyers were Ryan Thomas, who shot a 44 to earn a point from Heuveltons Lucas Harper (56) and Rhiley Amell of Tupper Lake (47), and Tyler Cotter, who posted a 51 to beat Heuveltons Dedrick Johnson (62) and Tupper Lakes Alex Lewis (58).
Also competing for N-N (1-3) were Brandon Palmer (70), Kyle Bond (55) and Austin Ward (67).
The Lumberjacks downed the Bulldogs 4-1 to come away with the sweep.
The Flyers play host to Brushton-Moira on Monday at the Raymondville Country Club starting at 3:30 p.m.
B-M SWEEPS C-F, E-K
In another Division II tri-meet on Friday, Brushton-Moira blanked both Clifton-Fine and Edwards-Knox 5-0. Clifton-Fine edged Edwards-Knox 3-2 at Highland Greens Golf Course.
Defending Section 10 individual champion Devin Delisle led all golfers with a medalist round of 38, which included a birdie on theninth hole while teammate Hunter Russell carded a 43 to top his two opponents.
Other winners for -M were Nathan Niles with a birdie on fopur, Matthew Niles and Michael Labarr. The Niles boys shot 56 and 59, respectively, while Labarr fired a 57.
Matthew Peabody was low man for the C-F Eagles with a 47 as Vincent Dowling finished with a 56.
Hunter Tuttle paced the E-K Cougars with a 47.
The double victory puts the BMC record at 2-2 while Clifton-Fine sits at 1-4. Edwards-Knox (0-5) is still searching for its first D-II victory.
