CANTON - Sophomore Josh Martel won the men’s javelin on the opening day of the New York State Collegiate Track Conference championship meet at SLU.

SLU’s men’s team is in fifth place after the first day with 28 points. Ogdensburg’s Jake Fredericks and Andy Fisher both advanced to qualifications for the 110 Hurdles and 200 dash. Fredericks ran the second best time in the hurdles race.
