Ogdensburg Chamber names Gateways and Corridors May honorees

A downtown business and private residence, both located on Ford Street, are the May winners of the Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce monthly Gateways & Corridors award for improved appearance.

The insurance agency Dillingham, Jones & Cissel, 402 Ford St., and the home of Linda Pellett, 1916 Ford St., were named.

The Gateways & Corridors awards are given to encourage home and business owners and the city to improve the appearance of heavily traveled streets - gateways and corridors - so that they attract visitors and potential homeowners and investors. Both properties are viewed as improvements to the appearance of Ford Street.

Dillingham, Jones & Cissel used a city-obtained, $40,000 state Main Street Program grant to help pay for new awnings, a door, masonry, lighting and exterior painting.

“I’m very appreciative to the city for the Main Street grant,” Edward J. Dillingham said Friday.

Ms. Pellett was also happy to be chosen.

“I was surprised and honored when Ms. (Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sandra M.) Porter told me about the house recognition,” she said. “I have lived here for almost 12 years and it is a work in progress. The house is 1906 Italianate, and I try to keep as many features as I can.”

The siding style, she said, matches the old original clapboards and wooden details such as the spindles on the porch and the corbeils on the windows and doors were copied.

“I enjoy landscaping and have planted shrubs of different colors and textures as well as fruit trees and roses,” Ms. Pellett added. “Now that I am retired, I hope to spend more time working on the house both inside and out.”
