Jefferson Community College Foundation Executive Director Christine M. Rizzo will resign effective May 31.
Ms. Rizzo, who has been with the agency since January 2011, said she will move to Syracuse to be closer to her network.
Its been an honor to work with so many truly dedicated people, she said. Its been really eye-opening to see how far JCC reaches into our community. Its been wonderful finding people who care so passionately about their alma mater.
Ms. Rizzo has been responsible for cultivating financial support, planned giving, grant coordination, alumni programming and special-event planning for Jefferson Community College. She has served as the link between the college and the foundation.
Weve been strengthening our connections with alumni, and we transformed the Mayors Ball into the Jefferson Gala, she said.
She received a bachelors degree in education from Cornell University, Ithaca, and a master of divinity degree and master of arts degree in theology from Aquinas Institute of Theology, St. Louis. Ms. Rizzo has more than 16 years of experience in fundraising and grant-application writing in the nonprofit sector.
I got involved in the field right after graduate school, Ms. Rizzo said. I really enjoy making a difference.
Over the next few weeks, she said, she will continue to help plan for the second annual Jefferson Gala and work toward two challenge matches: one to help keep a scholarship going and the other to build one of the foundations endowment funds.
Theres a laundry list of little details, she said.
JCC President Carole A. McCoy said the college will advertise soon for the foundation director position, and she hopes to have a new director hired by mid-July.
Its an important position on campus, so we want to get that filled as soon as possible, she said.
She said Ms. Rizzo has been well-spoken and kind and has helped the college tremendously.
We and the college are going to miss her, and Im going to miss her, Mrs. McCoy said. This is a loss to the institution.
