LISBON — The Lisbon Beach and Campground is open for walleye and pike fishing season, which began Saturday.

Campground Director Michael J. O’Neil said he is expecting a good year, weather permitting, thanks to the capacity the campground has added and the Bass Anglers Sportsman’s Society Bassmaster Elite Series coming to Waddington Aug. 8 to 11.

Mr. O’Neil has begun booking sites for the August competition.

The campground also has begun filling up with seasonal reservations, Mr. O’Neil said, with 58 campers planning to stay one month or longer.

This will be the first year the campground will be running with 91 sites.

In addition to the 11 sites ready for motor homes and recreational vehicles, Mr. O’Neil is planning to add five tent sites. That brings the total number of tenting sites to 15.

“It’s getting better all the time,” Mr. O’Neil said.

The last month has been busy with lawn maintenance and general repairs, Mr. O’Neil said.

Areas that were torn up during last year’s expansion project have been reseeded as well.

But Mr. O’Neil’s vision for the campground is not yet satisfied.

“My big push (for the summer) is to put the Internet in,” he said, noting that other campgrounds he has visited have been successful with the added accessibility.

He also hopes to add another road that gives access to the boat launch without forcing boaters to drive through the campground.

“It’s a big safety issue,” Mr. O’Neil said.

The Town Council will consider the issue during its Wednesday meeting.
