To The Editor:
For the past 12 years, the confirmation students of the Catholic parishes of Sacred Heart, St. Lawrence, and St. Marys have taken it upon themselves to raise money for the construction of homes for destitute families in Nicaragua, Central America.
Our primary fundraiser is a series of bake sales held at each church. This year, thanks to the support of our parishioners, we were able to raise over $3,000, enough to build a safe, sturdy home with sanitation for an extended family. This home replaces a shack, constructed with scrap materials, tarps, and having only a dirt floor. These conditions are horrendous. The new home is a major step in establishing a happy and dignified life for a fortunate family.
This could not be accomplished without the special contributions of our volunteer bakers: Mrs. Carol Sharp, Ms. Sue Plante, and Mrs. Sue Eurto who spend many hours creating delicious treats for our sale. Another fervent thanks for Dar of Dars Restaurant who every year bakes ten beautiful homemade pies donating them to our sale drawing much interest and appreciation.
Thank you one and all for your help and continued support.
